🍸 Brandon’s Weekly Lesson:
Say Less, Do More 🥷

Some of the most common phrases that servers say are:

  • “I’ll go put that in for you”

  • “Here is some more _____”.

These phrases are terrible phrases to get in the habit of saying all of the time.

One of the reasons it is so bad is because you don’t even realize that you are saying it!

When you repeatedly say something that you don’t even realize you are saying, that means you are NOT present and NOT in the moment.

You have turned into an ORDER TAKER.

Quick story that will help you realize why this is so important to change…

SERVER EXAMPLE:

For this example please assume that your parent has to always nag you for you to clean your room.

But this time, you are about to go clean your room all on your own, without being asked!

Which option is better?

  1. Tell your parent that you are about to go clean your room before you do it.

  2. Clean your room without saying anything to them so when they notice, they are shocked.

Obviously option 2!

If you tell your parent that you are going to clean your room, what do you think they are going to say?

→ “Okay, about damn time!”

But if you clean your room all by yourself and then 10 minutes or an hour later your parent says to you, “go clean your room”, but you already did it.

Then you could say, “already did”.

What are they going to say?

→ "Yea, right!” or “No way” and be impressed that you did it.

Now I know the story is a little off topic, but it goes the same for every little or big thing in the restaurant industry.

More napkins, extra ketchup, extra sauce, more water, a free refill, a new fork, a sharp knife for their steak, and there are PLENTY more examples.

I want you all to start doing all of these tasks, without saying a word!

Do it 7 seconds before they ask for it!

PLEASE DO NOT BRING A BIG STACK OF NAPKINS IN THE BEGINNING SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO LATER.

Look for these moments where you can be the HERO and bring over more RIGHT WHEN THEY ARE ABOUT TO NEED IT OR ASK FOR IT!

👩‍🍳 Server Story: Johnny, 20

I met Johnny this week at NYC's Tonchin Ramen (Michelin Star). I asked him how he got a job at such a cool, amazing restaurant.

His answer was: “I just walked in and told them I love the place!”

Long story short, it is not always that easy to get an amazing serving job, but sometimes you get lucky.

In the near future, we will be offering something that helps servers get jobs in the best restaurants in the world.

Johnny didn’t know his exact earnings, but he said he is making $100k-$150k a year working 30 or so hours a week!
