How To Get Your Team To Listen
Hereâs the deal:
Telling your staff what to do isnât enough.
You can give the best advice in the world, but if theyâre not tuned inâitâs in one ear, out the other.
Thatâs why I never coach by jumping straight to âYou shouldâŚâ or âDonât do it like that.â
Instead, I always start with one thing:
A question.
Hereâs how it looks in real time:
â Instead of:
âHey, go pre-bus Table 12.â
â Try this:
âHey, do you have a second?â
âCan I coach you on something?â
Points at Table 12 âI see three things we could clean upâwhat do you see?â
They pause.
They think.
They engage.
And thatâs when real learning happens.
Add These 3 Coaching Rules To Your Floor Today:
â Rule #1: Ask at least one question before coaching.
Let them spot the mistake first. Now they own the solution.
â Rule #2: New staff must ask 5 questions a shift.
Donât wait for them to speak upâtrain them to stay curious.
â Rule #3: Always respond with âGreat question.â
Doesnât matter what they ask. Your reaction sets the tone.
Want a culture where people actually want to get better?
This is how you build it.
â
When you do this right, your team holds each other accountable.
And coaching happens all shift longâwithout more meetings, without you micromanaging.
Letâs be real:
â You donât need to yell louder.
â You need a better way to coach.
