You Should Be Fired If You Say This!
If a table asks for something and you say “I can get your server”…
You should be in trouble.
Even if they say “Can you get my server?” and you say “Yes”…
You should be in trouble.
I’ll tell you what to say instead towards the bottom of this lesson.
At the best restaurants, there is the most focus on teamwork.
The more teamwork, the easier your job actually gets.
Let me put it to you this way:
Which method is going to get 6 diet cokes out to 3 different tables faster (all tables in different servers sections)?
Method 1 - 1 server brings out all 6 diet cokes on 1 tray in 1 trip
Method 2 - 3 servers bring out 2 diet cokes each on 3 different trays on 3 separate trips back
The answer is Method 1!
It obviously is going to take that 1 server slightly longer, but it saves the other 2 servers a ton of time.
In this time, those other 2 servers should be helping the server that's getting the diet cokes.
So the next time a table asks for their server, I want you to say one of these three things:
“I can get whatever you need!”
“What can I get for you?”
“I wanna help!”
9 times out of 10 they just need a soda or ketchup.
And even if the table needs something more important, now you know what it is and you can tell the other server to hopefully save them some time.
You should be running each other's drinks and food often.
The more your guests see more workers, the better!
Meaning, if they interact with 1 server the entire time, that is fine.
If they interact with 2 servers and a manager, that is good.
If they interact with 4 servers, 2 bussers, 1 runner, 1 manager, and the greeter… that is AMAZING.
