How To Sell 2nd & 3rd Drinks
Selling 2nd and 3rd drinks is more impactful than just upselling (obviously doing both is the best).
Guests will always appreciate the feeling of never having to worry about running out of a drink.
So here is what you should start doing:
Start asking if the guest wants another one at ONE THIRD of the way full.
NOT when the drink is empty!
You should ask when it is almost empty.
Meaning, they drank two thirds of it already.
Sometimes if there is a lot of ice, you could even ask at half way full. This is usually the time that the guest starts slow sipping their drink subconsciously. Even if they don’t order a drink right away, you asking them, still helps you!
Being ready to get them another drink makes them subconsciously drink their drink faster.
There are a few ways you can ask them if they want another:
Ask them - - “Same thing or something different?”
Ask them - - “Another one now or in a few minutes?”
Option 3 is a little more in depth, but will change your life:
It is actually a silent way of asking if they want another.
đź’ˇUnderstanding the psychological reason you should do this is more important than just doing the method.
The method is simply gesturing to the drink and asking if they want another one without saying anything.
You can raise your eyebrows or make a certain face to make it clear you are asking if they want another one.
The reason you should do this is because when we (servers) ask if they want another drink, they think about a few things before making that decision.
Most of the time, they are going to say no to another drink if their friend/significant other is not ready for another at the same time.
People like to order drinks together so it doesn’t seem like one is drinking more than the other. So asking if they want another drink silently, takes the pressure off them substantially. This makes them more comfortable ordering another one.
