Server Skills Part Three (Finale)

Reminder: Brandon told us server skills might not be as fun as an upselling, but boy do they make you a lot more money.

These are mostly going to get your tip % up, but keep in mind, better service makes your sales game stronger.

SKILL #5: ACCURACY

The last skill might be the most important one and it is Accuracy.

A lot of the time, accuracy even outweighs some of the other skills.

For example, when you are accurate you actually become more efficient and speedy.

It is more efficient to double check your orders before hitting send than it is to take the risk and just hit send.

Even if 1 out of 10 times you make a small mistake, fixing that mistake takes a lot longer than double checking rather quickly.

Let's get into something a little more advanced:

This is called ā€˜back questioning’.

Back questioning is kind of what it sounds like, but it is when someone orders something and you ask a question to make sure you have the correct order.

For example: If someone orders a plain burger, you may say ā€œplain burger, so just the bun and meat?ā€

Sometimes plain means that it comes with lettuce, tomato, onion and maybe even cheese. So taking the extra second to confirm goes a long way here.

Another example is when guests order for their children.

A lot of the time they order a ā€œplain pastaā€ or a ā€œplainā€ whatever.

You should always clarify exactly what they are getting before you leave the table.

This could even be with cocktails, cocktails, beer, wine, soda, apps, dessert, etc.

Every single item can need a back question, BUT I do NOT want you to back question unless it is needed.

This is important!

Never back question unless it is needed.

Meaning, if someone orders an exact item, you don’t have to ask ā€œIs rice okay with thatā€.

Or even say ā€œThat is big, is that okayā€.

This makes it seem like it shouldn’t come with rice OR that it shouldn’t be big.

It makes it seem like you are AGAINST the way the restaurant does it.

This is a bad habit and all restaurant owners hate it.
